When you’re planning a wedding ceremony with a celebrant, one of the biggest joys is the freedom to choose where you say your vows. Whether it’s a sunlit garden, or indeed YOUR sunlit garden, a majestic hotel, a historic castle, or the rolling grounds of a country barn, there are plenty of wedding venues in Yorkshire to make your ceremony unforgettable. Yorkshire is full of beautiful places to make your ceremony unforgettable.
I’ve had the pleasure of leading wedding ceremonies at some truly stunning venues. Here are ten of my favourite wedding venues in Yorkshire, each perfect for couples who want a ceremony that’s personal, meaningful and set in a location they love.
The Tithe Barn, Bolton Abbey
Rustic and romantic, The Tithe Barn is surrounded by Yorkshire Dales beauty. When I conducted the gorgeous ceremony for Rich & Katie, Storm Darragh was doing its best to disrupt us, but such was the love surrounding this couple, that the elements could not dilute the joy! This 16th century stone barn has a timeless warmth, with its vaulted ceilings and views over the river. It’s an ideal space, whatever the season – magical, cosy and warm in autumn / winter and bright and light in spring /summer. The ideal venue for your heartfelt, celebrant-led ceremony.
Thirsk Lodge Barns
Just outside Thirsk, these lovingly restored barns are full of charm. With both indoor and outdoor ceremony options, it’s a wonderful setting for a relaxed countryside wedding with plenty of personal touches. Imagine your choice of music being played from the minstrel’s gallery overlooking the aisle. At Alan and Amy’s wedding, their theme was, “Love, Booze and Dancing Shoes” and their ceremony reflected, and referenced, all three themes- with gusto, humour and joy!
Allerton Castle, Knaresborough
For couples dreaming of a castle wedding, Allerton Castle brings historic elegance. The grand staircase, rich interiors and formal gardens provide a fairy tale setting for a symbolic wedding ceremony. G & F really made this castle their own for their wedding day. They named themselves “Royal Riff-Raff” and their wedding outfits were imbued with their creative personalities. The little barn owl who flew from the back of the aisle to deliver the wedding rings to Garrett and Felicity at the front was both mesmerising and unforgettable!
Left Bank, Leeds
This converted church sits splendidly in the heart of the community of Headingley, Leeds. It offers a creative and spacious setting for city weddings. With its high ceilings and artistic energy, it’s a great choice for couples looking to do something a little different while keeping things meaningful. It has a warm and welcoming vibe, and this was why Jonathan and Helen chose it for their bespoke wedding. I loved the versatility of the venue too – one minute it was a dignified ceremony space and then the next, it was a wonderful setting to enjoy the wedding reception. Oh, and Roo, their red labrador also loved it!
Grantley Hall, Ripon
If you dream of a wedding blending stately elegance with modern luxury, Grantley Hall is a top-tier choice among wedding venues in Yorkshire. The architectural splendour of the hall and the magical, mesmerising gardens provide a sophisticated backdrop for any ceremony. With many indoor and outdoor options available, every celebration here is joyful and refined. I had the pleasure of seeing N and B share their extraordinary day here, complete with handwritten vows that were perfectly heart-felt, emotional, and humorous: “I promise to bring you a cup of tea and a few biscuits in bed at least once a week!” Lovely!
Middleton Lodge, Richmond
A Georgian country estate with a beautiful walled garden, Middleton Lodge is ideal for outdoor weddings in the warmer months. The grounds offer endless options for romantic photo spots and quiet moments together. A, who asked N to marry him after knowing her for just 10 days (talk about decisive!), chose to have their intimate ceremony in the fragrant Walled Gardens and Fig House at Middleton, whereas James and Olivia took over the main house and had a garden marquee. Your day and your way, Middleton Lodge lends itself perfectly to whichever style of wedding best reflects you!
Chevin Country Park Hotel, Otley
Escape to the country and have your memorable celebrant-led wedding nestled in the woodlands or in the lovely conservatory. This venue has a uniquely alpine-feel with log cabins on site for accommodation, it combines a rustic and romantic charm with views over the Yorkshire countryside, it’s perfect for both indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies. When Julie and Steve had their Renewal of Vows ceremony here, there was not a dry eye as the symbolic hand fasting element of their ceremony also included their lovely son. “Tying the knot” has given them a very special keepsake to remind them of their most-gorgeous, and poignant, ceremony.
Hazlewood Castle, Tadcaster
As one of the most historic wedding venues in Yorkshire Set in woodlands between Leeds and York, Hazlewood Castle is set dramatically in woodlands between Leeds and York and is steeped in history. Whether you choose the chapel, the gardens, or the Great Hall, it’s a truly memorable place to say your vows. Oliver married his stunning “brown-eyed girl” here, and their little bridesmaid stole our hearts as she ran up the aisle to be swept up into her daddy’s arms! We had mini cheddars to hand for a gentle bit of bribery/distraction to enable Oliver and Nadia to say their vows uninterrupted! Worked a treat!
Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate
A wonderful wedding venue for all seasons – a spring fling, a summer soirée or in the colours of a winter wonderland, Rudding Park offers you a wealth of choice for your celebrant-led wedding ceremony. Perhaps the Radcliffe Room, the Jupiter Room or the Library are for you, or what about the awe-inspiring 19th century Gothic Revival chapel at Rudding Park captures your imagination. Chi and Carmen’s had their cultural Chinese Tea Ceremony wearing their beautiful traditional wedding outfits before we celebrated their love in the chapel with their guests who had flown in from all over the world. Traditional or contemporary, this venue AND your ceremony is a reflection of you two.
The Yorkshire Wedding Barn, Richmond
With rolling hills all around and modern, light-filled barns, this newly-built venue offers both beauty and functionality. It is perfect for couples who want a relaxed, yet stylish, wedding ceremony in the countryside. I recently had the joy of conducting my first wedding here in July! Tom and Ines had a beautiful ceremony by the picture-perfect lake-side in the gazebo, and whether they chose to have their celebrant-led ceremony indoors or outdoors, it was clearly a dream day/weekend for them and their guests.
Each of these wedding venues in Yorkshire offer something special. From hotel weddings to castle weddings, garden weddings and rustic barns, there’s a setting for every couple and every kind of love story. With a celebrant-led ceremony, you can choose a location that reflects who you are and build a wedding ceremony that feels true to you.
If you’d like help planning a ceremony that feels warm, joyful and completely personal, I’d love to hear from you.
